OUR TROOP

.
The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based
youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that
builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and
develops personal fitness. For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by
combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America
believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key
to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society
Who We Are
Troop 4 Clinton is a Boy Scout troop sponsored by Saint John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish. The Troop has made the program of the Boy Scout of America available to the young men of Clinton of more than fifty (50) years. The Troop meets regularly from September to June at the Clinton Middle School, Tuesday nights from 7-9pm.
What We Offer
Troop 4 Clinton uses the program of the Boy Scouts of America to provide an active, outdoor program
for boys and young men from the ages of 11-17. The Boy Scout program is a boy-led program and the
troop works to build self-reliance, leadership and character in our members through training at our
weekly meeting and monthly camping trips. We teach skills that are useful for life (cooking, first aid,
leadership), expose boys to the great outdoors through our camping activities and instill the values of
good citizenship through our community service project for the Town and schools.

LEADING YOUTH TO LIFELONG VALUES
The slide show above gives you a sample of some of the Troop activities the boys have participated in this year. Though some activities stay the same, the boys are encouraged to design, plan and lead the program they find interesting to them so each year can provide new and different activities.

Insignia and Uniform of the Boy Scouts of America
The Boy Scouts of America is a uniformed organization and uniforms can be purchased at the Lancaster Scout Shop at 1980 Lunenburg Rd in Lancaster. Prior to purchasing uniforms please speak to the Scoutmaster to determine what needs to be purchased. The troop provides neckwear – we wear a bolo tie. As boys progress through the Scouting program they will earn badges based on their mastery of skills taught during the troop activities. There are two main categories of badges the boys can earn. Ranks: There are six (6) ranks in Scouting; they are designed to achieve the goals of the program (character building, good citizenship and developing personal fitness) and provide the boys will experiences that are designed to develop an appreciation of the outdoors and make them self-reliant. The upper Scouting ranks required the boys to provide leadership to the troop and service to the communities. Here are the six (6) Scouting ranks: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and Eagle.
Merit Badges: The merit badge program is designed to expose the boys to an area of interest, or potential interest. There are over 100 different merit badges that teach everything from Astronomy to Woodworking.
